  1. About sixty five years ago when the Landlords were at the height of their power in Ireland, there was a cruel Landlord the name Ralph Doppin in Derrycastle, Co Longford.
    He had fifty tenants tenants and he raised the rent on them from a £1 an acre to £2 an acre. Those poor people weren't fit to pay him the rent so one cold November day he evicted forty two tenants, and they had to march to Granard Workhouse.
    Eight tenants were all that left on the property. One of these tenants had a little bit of money and he started a little country shop. The mans name was Porrick Reilly. In his shop he sold groceries, meal and flour.
    It came to pass that Doppin got broken down and he was so poor and destitude that he sent to Porrick for a half stone of Indian meal and Porrick refused him when he (Doppin) hadn't the price of it, so he had nothing to eat except rabbits and wild fowl.
    Ralph Doppin became so hungry that in desperation he hanged himself from a tree in the lawn.
    His eldest daughter Diania, is alive
