  1. Mrs Macken, Cranery, Colmcille was one day preparing the dinner for men she had working. A strange woman came to the door. She asked for some refreshment. The woman of the house told her that she was preparing the dinner and asked her to sit down. The strange woman refused. She took her departure. As she was actually going out on the street, the men were coming in, but they did not see her.

  2. James Mackin, Crenery, Colmcille, never raked the fire when going to bed at night, but left a clean hearth. This was an old Irish Custom. People did so lest perhaps some poor souls might want the warmth of the fire. This James Mackin often told his
