  1. I heard this old prayer from James Reilly Derrycasson, Dring, Granard. aged 77 years.
It was said when going to bed.

"Here I lay me head to sleep
I give my soul to God to keep
If any evil spirit comes to trouble me,
    Blessed Virgin Mary waken me.
There are four corners on my bed
There are four angels they bespread
    Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John
God bless the bed that I lie on.
    Lord be my branch"
    Lady be my flower"
Jesus be with me now & at my dying hour.
As I walked out on the Holy Land
I met the Blessed Virgin with Three Mass-books in her hand
    There were seven priests singing,
    Seven bells ringing
    Shut the Gates of Hill,
    Open the Gate of Heaven
