  1. If a man owned a horse valued at £5 or over a protestant might offer him £5 for the animal & take him.
    Jimmie Smyth’s Larkfield horse was taken from him by a protestant called Dewant who lived in Cornagran beside the village of Scrabby (now called Gowna). The servant boy, however, crossed the river and brought back the horse though the guns were levelled at him.

    The great-grandfather of the present G. Geoghegan, High Court Judge, once drove his carriage and two horses into Mullingar & put them up in a stable. A boy (Catholic) walked up to him on the street & offered him two £5 for his horses.
