  1. There is a fort not too far from here and it is in Johnnie Jobe's land. It is a big fort with trees all round it. One time a very poor man saw the clump of trees and said to himself he would cut down a tree and make a good fire. Se he went home to get his saw and axe. When he came back he cut down the tree and brought it home. When his wife saw the tree she was delighted and told him to cut off the branches.
    He did so and put down a big fire. But that night the man could not sleep. He heard a lot of rough voices outside and so he went to the window and peeped out. There he saw a lot of fairies clustered round the door. At last he saw them raize big sticks and beat the door. When he went back to bed he heard
