- I have just heard a folklore story about marriage customs long ago how they were carried out and all about them also. When the two were getting married long ago there were quite different customs to those of to-day because when they were going to get married they used to go to the church riding on horses or perhaps on an ass or horse and cart. They used to be clothed in funny dress also. The husband used to have a frize suit on him, whereas the wife used to be dressed in big long skirts which trailed down to her pair of home made boots. When they would be getting married the husband never had to buy a ring, only when the time for putting on the ring would come, he would have the key of the door with him and he to put the eye of it in on the wife's finger so that was a cheap ring indeed. When coming home they both the husband and wife would ride home on a horse. That night there would come a crowd of boys dressed in straw and they would ask for drink(continues on next page)
