  1. After the "Races of Castlebar" the Irish and French were proceeding to Granard to join reinforcements. But on the way the chains of the cannon were stolen at Cloone and the soldiers were delayed and it was on this account that the battle of Ballinamuck was fought. The English army marched to intercept the Irish and French and in this army was an Irishman named Gunner McGee.
    When the army had turned at Gaigue Cross, McGee who was driving the horses that were drawing the cannon, started to gallop them, and when he had got a good way in front of the army he put a chain ball in the
