    could not break his word he gained his freedom, and went around the remainder of his life a free man.
    Some years later Lord Forbes evicted twenty-four families in this district in one day, and brought three hundred and fifty soldiers and Police who remained for some time under the charge of Captain Horn, and Captain Hill. The men that were caretakers of the evicted homes were called "Emergency Men". Their duty was to prevent the tenants from going into their houses or feeding their cattle on their lands.
