  1. In the year 1798 there came to Killala Bay an army of French Soldiers who were under General Blake and shortly after landing they fought the English at Castlebar. The English were beaten and they fled across the country until they reached Ballinamuck.
    They English soldiers were too strong for the other army and so they beat the Irish in two hours. The Irish soldier were chased through the bogs and over hills.
    The old people say they were routed across Carn hill and were over taken in Cornedan, Killoe, Co. Longford,
