    pieces of rags in which three holes are cut, two of them for their eyes and the third for the mouth.
    They generally go about in threes or fours and often as many as ten. When they are going to dress they go to some particular house and sometimes to a crossroads. It is usual to see the young boys dressed like an old woman with red bonnets and snuff boxes.
    When a crowd reach a house they shout and say:
    "A penny to bury the wren"
    It they get nothing they say:
    "We''ll bury the wren at your gate,"
    and before twelve months the gate will rot and fall to
