Pancakes were made by mixing flour with bread - soda and buttermilk, pouring on a pan and baking quickly over a strong fire. Pancakes were made specially for Shrove, and soda - cakes with currants for Christmas. Wheaten meal and flour, oat meal and potatoes were the materials used. Querns were not used during the past hundred years, but previously they were.
