    made of the same material and put through the pieces by piercing holes to fit them. Mats were made from straw same as the mattresses, but of course smaller. Straddles for donkeys to carry creels were home made of two pieces of flat timber to fit the back and pegs on these. It was upholstered with a haybag. Cruppers were made from straw and hemp which kept the straddle in position.
