  1. One time there was a man who was very fond of card playing. This night he was coming home and he saw a man sitting at a table playing cards. The man at the table asked the passer by to go in to play. When they were dealing out the cards some fell on the floor. The man stooped to lift them. He then saw that the other man had cow's feet. At length he lifted his head but there was no man there.

  2. Once upon a time there was a blacksmith named Will Couper. He was a very bad living man. One day as he was working in the forge the devil came and asked him would he go with him. Will said he could not as he had too many horses to shoe but the next time he would go with him. The next time the devil came he was put sitting in chair until he was ready to go.
    Then they started off but the devil could not get up. So he begged of him to let him go and he would not come again for a long time so Will let him go. After a long time he came again and Will went with him. They were passing a public house Will said he would
