  1. I have often asked my grandfather to tell me stories of long ago. The following is a true story.
Francis Hughes went one night to watch his turf on the bog as it was being stolen. He was sitting at a clamp for about three hours when he saw a crowd of people coming towards him. When they came near (they) he could see they were carrying a corpse. They stopped where he was sitting and one said, "Who shall carry the corpse." Another said, "Francis Hughes get under the corpse." They went to Bernard Keating's bog and buried the coffin. Then they told him to go home which he did much the worse of his experience. Next day he brought some of his neighbours to the spot and there was nothing there but a bunch of new heather. He knew then that they were not right people and he took ill and died nine days after.
