    into it because it was said that certain old people could see what was to happen in the future. On Shrove Tuesday it was a custom that the people used to eat pancakes for their tea. On Hallow Eve night they used to go about throwing turnips and heads of cabbage at one another's doors. During the June Bonefire every old person used to take a sod of turf out of it and throw it into their own land.
