    there are only about three hundred now. This old man told me that there were thirty families in my townland before the famine. Now there are only five. He pointed out the places where these houses were now they are made into stone walls. The people go such a fright with the famine that they fled on 'case' it might come again. In a few cases whole families were wiped out. He told me that 1847 and 1848 were the worst years, but the effects of it lasted for over ten years.
