  1. There are many old stories told about certain days and months of the year. It is said that if you spend money on New Years Day you will be spending it all through the year. It is an old saying: If Candlemas Day be fair and clear there will be two winters in the year but if Candlemas Day be cloudy Winter is gone and will not come again. If you give out milk on May Day you will have no milk for the whole year. It is said that during a certain while on Whit Monday there is drowning on the water. It is an old custom for people who are moving to a new home to leave the old home on Friday for "Friday's flitting makes a long sitting. It is said that if it rains on St. Swithen's Day it will rain for forty days. If you sew on Sunday you will have to rip it with your nose when you die. A mill wheel never turns on St. Martin's Day. It is an old custom to cut your hair and nails on Good Friday and bury them. It is said that there
