used to be paid to the town council for the upkeep of the fair greens and for the making of the streets. When animals were sold luck money was given to show the parties agreed to the bargain. It is regulated in the following way two shillings for a big beast, six pence for a calf and three pence for a pig. When bargains were made the parties showed their agreement by slapping their hands, by marking the beast with mud and they used to mark pigs by giving them a scar.
