    the master provided. He some times happened to run short of books. Then some boy or girl got no book. It was told how a boy who got no book, his uncle gave a boatsman the price of the book and an oaten cake so he brought him the book from a book stall in Dublin. The one book did for all subjects. It was Reader, Grammar, Table Book and Religious instruction, such as the law allowed in these days. There was no mention of Irish History in that school, that subject was a felony. Each pupil carried his own ink bottle, a small brown stone, delph jar about two inches wide and three inches
