  1. In this district about one hundred years ago the teacher's name was Billie Lawlor. When he started to teach first he went at night from house to house through the district. Any old barn served as a school room In one place he taught in a horse's stable. To this day can be seen the smoke on the wall where the fire was. The scholars sat around on planks, propped up with stones. In some places there might be a bench or table. Then the seats were arranged round the bench. The master sat on a form.
