  1. There is a ratheen in Noughaval. The man that owned it had one daughter. He had a workman named Tom Cullen. One day while Cullen was fencing he cut a bush out of the ratheen to use for fence. The daughter used to go across the fields to school and pass by the ratheen. A strange man was sitting on the stile where she had to cross. He was there for many days and the child began to get afraid. She told her parents every evening what she saw. The next morning [?] came with girl. He told her to ask the man what he wanted.
