  1. In the year 1921 there was a severe frost. It was so thick that the men could bring horses and cars and bring home turf into the island. James Reid of Muckinagh was half way over the lake with a load of turf when the ice began to crack and he was afraid that it would break. He heeled up the load of turf and he had to go in across the ice with a barrow and bring in the turf to the shore.
