    Seventy or eighty Years ago there was no soap made or too dear to buy people used urine as a bleacher for clothes

    70 or 80 years ago as there was no soap made or too dear to buy people used urine as a bleacher for clothes - usually linen - which was bleached, fairly widespread in the district. It (the urine) was supposed to be kept three weeks before it was used.
