  1. Old Houses
    In former times the most common house in this district was the mud wall cabin. This house was very insanitary and badly ventilated. The walls were composed of yellow clay and the house was thatched with oaten straw grown locally. The house consisted of two rooms and often had to afford accommodation to 12 or 14 people.
    It usually consisted of two rooms, and the fire-place was in the centre of the dividing wall between the kitchen and room. The house sometimes had no windows but always had a chimney. A better
