  1. The following cures for ailments or sickness are very common in this locality. I have heard of these cures from a man named Patrick Farrell, Empor, Ballynacargy:
    Cures for warts
    1. To rub a snail to the wart and then hang the snail on a hawthorn bush and when the snail withers, the wart will wither also.
    2. To count the number of warts you have and put as many stones as warts in a bag and throw away the bag and whoever lifts the bag shall take the warts.
    3. To burn an elder stick and to make a cross of it on the wart and throw away the stick across your
