  1. In the townsland of Empor there still remains the ruins of an old castle called the castle of Empor.
    Although very old it does not figure in Irish history but it is only mentioned in a book called the "Annals of Westmeath" written by James Woods a native of Ballymore, therefore we have to rely on local tradition.
    This castle was approached by a bye road leading in by this school from the Mullingar Ballymahon road.
