    The Tea Man
    Long ago the Tea man used to go through out the country selling tea. He was a very unwelcome visitor by everybody.
    A county Meath man said to me that in county Meath there lived a man who was very fond of cards. When he used to have a good hand of cards he repeated this poem.
    By the Holy say Man
    Here's the Tay Man
    Shut the door and
    Put out the dog.
    That was as much as to say we're not at home, but the dog is so go away if you want to be safe.
    This also was a way of indicating to tinkers & tramps that they were not wanted.
