    In the parish of Killucan some families named Fitzgerald live. Although they are now working people they are descended from the family of Lord Edward Fitzgerald and can be traced back to the time of Queen Elizabeth. In the sixteenth century Sir Luke Fitzgerald of Tyreroghan had a castle and stronghold near Kinnegad on the road to Edenderry.
    Part of the castle known as the watch tower is still to be seen. It is called the Turret of Legar.
    These Fitzgerald were Catholic. The ruins of a church at Tyreroghan are all that remain of what is thought to have been their private chapel.
