  1. Raharney village is in Co Westmeath in the parish of Killucan and in the Barony of Farabelle and stands on the river Deel.It contains a number of of Raths on the banks of this river and gets its name from a rath on which a chief Dírne lived. The old road is not to be seen now. It formerly passed through Grangemore and crossed the Deel at the dam through Joristown and thence to Milistown. James Fullam and other old residents state that the correct name of this village is Rath Carney.
