   Kind friends to you my fervent thanks
   Through you I now convey
   For shamrocks plucked near Boyne's fair banks
   In Meath so kind and gay
   The home of dear loved Growney
   With whom on fancy's wings
   I've often walked many miles
   To Tara of the Kings

   With boyhood days a longing came
   Still harbouring in my breast
   To visit Meath to greet its Bards
   And view it shrines so blest
   Loved Trim, Moynalty, Kells Lagore,
   Whose fame traditions sings
   Since freedom's chimes resounding o'er
   Great Tara of the Kings

   (III)

   For those great Bards for whom you wept,
   Dear friends I oft times pray,
   Why mourn their deaths that glorious dawn
   Of Heaven's eternal day.
   Where they in ecstacy sublime
   The Godheads praise now sings
   With Growney your friend who loved
