  1. The majority of the houses long ago were built of mud or earth and some of them that happened to be near a bog were built of scraws. In some parts of the country there was quite a lot of them together like a village with more smoke coming out of the door than the chimney. The houses were thatched with straw or rushes and floors of clay or earth, they were mostly two roomed houses with the fire set in the centre and a hole on the roof top for a chimney.

  2. Long ago there was a hedge school at the back of the present school of Rosmead. It stood on the top of a hill, it was a very small building made of mud and wood, it did not hold a very large number of pupils. The hedge school masters name was Mr Murphy, his hours for teaching were from seven o'clock at night to nine o'clock at night.
    His usual subjects were reading and writing and how to state letters. James Dugdale and my Grandfather and some others were some of the pupils who attended
