    Oaten-meal Bread
This was made from oaten meal to which a pinch of salt was added and kneaded with water, and it was made round and flat, and baked on a griddle.
Bread was baked every day. A mark was cut in the form of a cross on top of the cake, and this was done to keep the cake from opening at the sides. The name given to the vessel in which bread was made was a pot-oven.
Bread was baked standing against a support in front of the fire.
    Griddle bread was made.
