  2. Hedge schools did not exist in my district at any time but "house schools" did.
    Henry Gee was the name of a teacher. He taught indoor. The other teachers were not strangers. They belonged to my district and they lodged in the houses.
    The pupils paid a penny each, every night for the instruction, and Reading, Writing and Arithmetic were taught. Writing was done on slates. The children were seated in rows in the school. The master and pupils
