  1. As I roved out one evening in the pleasant month of May,
    From the town of Eden-derry to Kilkenny I did stray,
    I met with an old women and her name I did not know,
    But she banged me with the beetle round the bog of Timahoe.
    II
    As she was washing by the river side I happend to pass by,
    I though she was a fair one and on her I cast my eye.
    I gently stepped up to her and I though to teast her so,
    But she banged me with the beetle round the bog of Timahoe.
    III
    I was on my master's business but I had not long to stay,
    I had a score of cattle I bough at the fair that day.
