  2. James Smyth composed the following song when the cattle-driving was going on, the neighouring ranch, about 1906 or 1907.
    I am sorry to say the times have changed,
    Since first we joined the police,
    We had lots of fun and leisure then,
    To comfort and console us,
    Outside the barrack door we'd set,
    As spruce and gay as finches,
    With hair well oiled and wax moustache,
    W'd ogle the passing winches,
    With my Rig-a-ma-du there's trouble in view.
