    now a carpenter's work shop. Mrs. Fagan taught in it because it was her house at that time. The children brought the money to her. Neither the teacher or the children knew Irish. History, arithmetic and English reading were taught in that hedge school.
    There was another hedge school in Milltown where Master Bateman taught. It was opposite Bardons. Master Bateman was a "Poor Scholar". The children were seated on the sods of turf which they brought as fuel for the fire.
