  1. I
In sleep a dream possess'd my mind,
    I found myself once more
    Among the lonely glens reclin'd
    My youth had wander'd o'er.
The linnet, thrush, and woodlark nigh
    On mountain, grove and plain,
Awoke a thrilling song of joy
    To welcome me again.
    II
My father press'd his sun green seat
    Beneath the alder tree,
And smil'd I could so well repeat
    My lesson at his knee.
My mother o'er her milking pail
    Down in the shelter'd lane,
Sung each sweet song that I so long
    Had pin'd to hear again.
