    In blooming May when flowers were gay
    Rural swains and beauteous dames
    Together did assemble
    Bereft of care I wandered where
    The merry pipes so funny
    Made youth advance to join the dance
    when I beheld my Johnny
    His hair was brown above His brow
    As white as winter snow
    His eyes were bluer than the skies
    When summer breezes blow
    But Oh! his voice would make rejoice
    A heart though full of care
    But soon I knew how little worth
    Were love and promise fair.
    One evening late I chanced to stray
    Down by a low plantation
    And there my Johnny I espied
    With Kate in conversation
    And there they were love making there
