- There was a chapel in Ballinlough long ago, and the ruins of it is there to the present day, and the holy-water fonts are in the field yet. It was Cromwell that knocked it. There was also a castle in Ballinlough and Cromwell sent over one of his men to take the castle. The man of the castle said come on and fight me for the castle. So Cromwell got a rope and hung the man of the Castle on a tree. The tree is called the hang-mans tree.
