  1. Hedge School
    There was a hedge school in Mulrua. School was taught in a shed of Robert Smyths. It was taught by a man named Master Lyons. School was taught by night. It was English language that was taught. The teacher was not astranger. The teacher lodged in the houss. The pupils used to pay the teacher. Some of the pupils would bring him eggs and butter and vegetables. There was no copies or pencils used. It was on slates they wrote. There was no blackboards.
