    old people can still point out the sites of these houses. The year before the famine the crop of potatoes was so good that the farmers having been fully supplied with potatoes threw some of them into ditches and left them to decay on the banks. The following year the potatoes were all black and decayed away in the ridges and drills. The following year the people bought seed potatoes from other countries
