    June 24th and 29th
On St. John's Eve (June 23rd) and also on 29th June, it was customary to light bonfires. Wood, furze, and turf (where plentiful) were used for the fire. The young people usually held a dance at the fire, which was kept going till day-break. The fire was generally at a cross-roads on the green patch in th centre.
