  1. The well in Monknewtown is used as a spring well. It is not known locally if it had been a holy well, but Mrs McArdle of Monknewtown said that before Mrs Crilly of Kellystown died she told her that it was a holy well but she gave her no name for it. Nobody in the district knows any name for it or any thing about it.
    Mrs McQuillan of Dowth said that the first Sunday in August long ago was a Pattern day in Monknewtown, but she does not know if that had any connection with the well.
