  1. My grandmother told me some old marriage customs. The people went in side cars to get married long ago. They got married in the church. On the day they got married boys dressed up in straw and came to the house. They were not invited they only came for food and drink. They were called strawboys. If the people that got married did not give a dance boys knocked the bottoms out of bottles and made horns out of them. That was called "kettling" them.
It was a custom to have something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. If people got married on:
    Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday was the best day of all,
    Thursday for losses,
    Friday for crosses,
    Saturday no day at all.
    If they get:
Married in white you are chosen all right.
Married in blue your love will be true.
Married in grey you will live far away.
