- Milking the heather
A woman went out early on May morning and strigged the top of the heather with her toes and made the wish to take a certain neighbour's cow's milk or butter. It thereby decreased with the neighbour & correspondingly increased with the woman who set the charm.
To prevent butter from being Charmed away.
When the churn was done, the staff of the churn-dash was circled three times round the churn. This broke all charms which might be made against the churn.
If this didn't suceed a new staff was made from the rowan tree
