  1. Here are some heroes and athletes I heard of James Lynch, Corravelish Kingscourt was a famous wrestler and also a famous fighter. He fought three men at the one time. Hughie Browne, Balloughly, Kingscourt could thresh five barrels of oats every day from seven o'clock in the morning to seven at night. He could also jump a six foot gate.
    Tom Mc Cabe, Berragh, Kingscourt could lift four stone and throw it across his shoulder. He was a great mower. He was able to mow an Irish acre in a day. John Powell, Coroneary, Kingscout could mow an Irish acre and 30 sq perches every day.
    Peter Hand was a very good mower. He used to mow an Irish acre in the day. A man from Moyle Bridge was able to carry forty eight or forty nine stone on his back. His name was Micky Fitch. (Fitzpatrick.) Miss Carolan from the Cloghan Bridge was a famous swimmer.
