    Like a banshee at midnight when Ireland is sleeping
    And men in repose have forgotten their care.
    Like some soul in distress coming wailing and weeping
    Blows the sad, lonesome wind on the plain of Kildare.
    Round Bodenstown churchyard sad and lamenting,
    It sobs and it sighs o'er one green grave alone,
    Where, his country enslav'd and his foes unrelenting
    They buried in sorrow heart-broken Wolfe Tone.
    Long years have rolled by since that cold, bitter morning
    When England said softly: "My victim you'll be"
    But the end of a felon inglorious scorning
    He died as he lived a true Irishman he.
