- There are a great variety of birds around our homestead. The most beautiful songsters are the Thrush and Black-bird and Robin. Then there are the Wren, the Goldfinsh, the Sparrow, the Pigeon, the black distructful Crow, and the Magpie. In Summer the seven sleepers return,
"The Bee the Bat, the
Butterfly, the Cuckoo,
and the swallow, the
Corncrake, the Weather Blake;
They bid us all good morrow".
