Fragment of a song composed by a local rustic poet on the fight...

Fragment of a Song Composed by a Local Rustic Poet on the Fight put up agains Rack rents by the Tenants of Petersville Coolnahinch and Quigilagh in 1881
You patriot farmers I pray lend (me) an ear
A tale of deep intrest I mean you to hear
Of the Petersville tenants who acted so brave
Against tyrannic Landlords who did them enslave
    Refrain
O Mavrone they stood firm and loyal
Displayed a grand pattern for country and town
To pay no rackrents but at the point of the bayonet
And hold to the rules that the League did lay down
But cursed disunion and tyranic laws Have injured poor Erin and her honest cause.
O Mavrone were it left to the landlords We'd soon let them all the rent we would pay
We'd deck them up neatly with tar and with feathers
And curb their rapacity to the end of their day
The seizures were made by the limbs of the law
The worst looking vilains that ever you saw
The cast of their features it would you affright
Some say they stole spuds and robbed hen
