  1. The Fair-Green is situated on the "Carrick" the most elevated position in the town. It is considered large for a provincial town and is enclosed by a stone wall, with four entrances each accommodating a differant direction. It is maintained by the Urban District Council since the Town Commissioners were superseded by the former, and is open to all owners and buyers alike free of charge. Fairs are held on the last Saturday of each month from July to December for sale of Cattle and Sheep. Pig fairs were each month until recent years. They are but a memory, as fat pig are sent to Dublin and are sold there. A circus arriving in the town is allowed on the Fair-Green for one night. Travellling shows, swing-boats and merry-go-rounds frequent the Fair-
Green and are allowed to remain on payment of a nominal sum each night.
